JOHANNESBURG, Nov 29, 2010 (IPS/TerraViva) – South Africa is Africaâs largest economy and the continent’s biggest emitter of greenhouse gases. The countryâs emissions per capita are on par with those of the United Kingdom, and more than twice as high as Chinaâs emissions by the same measure.

MELBOURNE, Australia, Nov 18, 2010 (IPS/TerraViva) – Environmentalists here are on the verge of a significant victory in their efforts to reduce Australiaâs greenhouse gas pollution, as the Victorian state government negotiates with the owner of the countryâs “dirtiest power station” to shut down the coal-fired facility.
