
Inder Kumar Gujral |
Inder Kumar Gujral was
India's Prime Minister from 1997 to 1998. He served
as Minister of External Affairs (1989-1990 and 1996-1997),
Minister in charge of several portfolios from 1967 to
1976, and Ambassador to the USSR from 1976 to 1980.
Chancellor of Vishva Bharati University (1997-99), he
is presently Chancellor of Maulana Azad National Urdu
University. He was also leader of the Indian delegation
to the U.N. in 1990, 1997 and 1998, member of the Indian
delegation to the U.N. session on environment in Stockholm
in 1972, alternate leader of the Indian delegation to
the UNESCO sessions in 1970, 1972 and 1974. He has served
as a special envoy to several nations in Africa, and
to Bulgaria and was the accompanying Minister to President
of India during state visits to Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Egypt
and Sudan.
