Inter Press Service (IPS) Africa invites you to participate in training on transboundary water governance in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and implications on national water policy and use, to be held during national water week in your country.

The one and a half day trainings will take place in each SADC member state during national water weeks that will be marked on different dates between 1 March to 30 June 2015. Training will cover technical aspects, such as the SADC Fourth Regional Strategic Action Plan (RSAP) for Integrated Water Resources Management, policy, governance and use from local, national, regional and international perspectives as well as water reporting tools.

Journalists will be required to produce suitable content for their own news agency and to pitch story ideas for an IPS news feature.

Applicants should:

  • reside in the capital city;
  • be proficient in English (French DRC and Portuguese Angola and Mozambique);
  • have a minimum 3 to 5 years journalism experience;
  • hold appropriate tertiary journalism training qualifications;
  • be employed by a local or international news agency (full time or freelance);
  • having a laptop, camera capable of capturing high resolution images and a mobile device for live tweeting would be an added advantage;

To be considered for training, please submit by close of business, Friday, 20 February 2015:

  • your CV, indicating the medium in which you work (print/broadcast/online/multimedia) and two samples of previous published or broadcast work. You are encouraged to send links of your published work but please ensure these links work;
  • a very brief letter of support from your Editor indicating a willingness to publish/broadcast your water governance related piece as well as his/her willingness to release you for the training and press conference.

NB: please note, we will not be providing accommodation for this training. Participants must be based in the capital.
