Bangkok, Thailand will host the Global Forum on Media and Gender (GFMG) from 2 to 4 December 2013. The event will address gender equality and women’s empowerment in and through the media. As a partner of UNESCO, which is the main organiser of the Forum, IPS will contribute its expertise in mainstreaming gender in its news products and producing media training manuals, events and platforms on different gender and development issues. africaIPS Africa has been invited as media partner to the annual conference of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit of Heads of State and Government, to be held on August, 17 – 18, in Lilongwe, Malawi.

IPS Africa will be present with a team of journalists to the number of side events to be held during the conference starting August 14th, leading up to the Summit of Heads of State and Governments, to produce 3 printed multi-lingual TerraViva’s. Read more »

IPSTVlogurlsmWhen IPS director general, Mario Lubetkin, announced at Rio+20 that IPS was branching out into WebTV to keep pace with the advances of digital technology, he emphasized that, “IPSTV will be much more than a visual cousin of the print product”.

During these past months, there has been intense work in Rome and around the world to build a team of professionals to manage the newly born IPSTV. Among first steps, IPSTV selected IPS journalists from Africa, Asia, Latin America, North America, the Middle East and Europe to come to Rome headquarters to undergo an intense week-long video reporting training. IPS in partnership with Thomson Reuters Foundation (TRF), with the support of IFAD, are pleased to inform journalists of its new ‘Rural Poverty Reporting’ training workshop, to be held from June 4 – 6, in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The workshop aims to highlight covering climate change as a development story – by creating a venue both for discussing climate change as a development reality for rural communities, and for discussing it in a newsroom environment in order to tell better, more effective stories around it linked to everyday lives.
