IPS in partnership with Thomson Reuters Foundation (TRF) worked with 21 journalists this week in Rome with a training event to coincide with IFAD’s General Council (GC) meeting. Journalists from all over the world joined the training, including participation from Nepal, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Qatar, Ecuador, Senegal and Burkina Faso. Read more »

Journalists, trainers and logistics personnel.

Last week 11 journalists from all over Africa attended the Reporting on Rural Poverty and Agriculture workshop in Arusha, Tanzania, which was held in conjunction with the biannual African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF). The workshop was the third in a series of training workshops organised by Inter Press Service – IPS and Thomson Reuters Foundation in a partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), following events in Cairo and Rio de Janeiro earlier this year.

In addition to the training the participants attended a press conference with Kofi Annan and Melinda Gates, reported on keynote speaker Dr. Kanayo F. Nwanze, the President of IFAD, live tweeted from the conference with the hashtag #AGRF2012, and visited two IFAD projects in rural Tanzania. Read more »

IPS – Inter Press Service and Menendez Pelayo International University (UIMP) organized their fifth annual seminar, with this year’s 3-day meeting focused on “Communication for Social Change and Development”. It was held from 10 – 12 September, 2012 in Santander (Spain).

The seminar gave an opportunity for different actors working in the field of communication, development and social change to exchange experiences and create synergies, with a view to improve public policies on communication, and good practices in these fields. Read more »

BANGKOK – To get a view of current development and social news and issues relating to the Association of South-east Asian Nations (ASEAN), which was set up by IPS Asia-Pacific under its programme with the International Development Research Centre.

ASEAN, South-east Asia’s main grouping of 10 member countries, gets a lot of media coverage. But most of this is centred around high-profile events and summits, leaving little room for in-depth analysis and investigation especially of social issues that rarely make the headlines at such events.
