On the occasion of the upcoming World Social Forum 2008: a Global Day of Action and Mobilisation, thousands of people all over the world will march, speak, celebrate, and dialogue in villages, rural zones, and urban centers, in the context of hundreds of decentralized self-organized actions. They will mobilize over a one-week period in January, culminating in a Global Day of Mobilisation and Action on 26 January to show that another world is possible. Read more »

A seminar for Latin American journalists on the MDGs was jointly organized by UNDP, the Municipality of Montevideo and IPS Latin America with the support of the Italian cooperation agency. The seminar was opened by Ricardo Ehrlich, Montevideo Mayor, and Conrado Ramos, Deputy Director of planning and budget of the municipality.

In the frame of the initiatives organized for the MDGs mid-term review, Sabina Zaccaro in Rome coordinated for IPS the Local Governments’ International Mid Term Evaluation Conference on the U.N. Millennium Development Goals, a joint initiative of IPS, the Municipality of Rome and United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), held in Rome on 22 and 23 June 2007. Mayors of all over the world attended the Conference.

The DG travelled to Glasgow to participate in the CIVICUS World Assembly and to the Media and Civil Society Dialogue jointly organized by CIVICUS, IPS and Oxfam-Novib, on the relationship between the media and civil society, with a broader aim to increase understanding between mainstream media and civil society in order to improve the quality and quantity of coverage that civil society issues receive.
