pluralThe United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), two longstanding IPS partners, invite  the world’s youth to submit original and creative videos about migration, diversity or social inclusion to the PLURAL + competition. Young people up to 25 years of age can submit their videos until 30 June 2013.

IPS Director General participated in the 5th United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) Global Forum that took place in Vienna (February 27-28), entitled “Responsible Leadership in Diversity and Dialogue”. President Al-Nasser, president of the IPS Board, took up his new appointment as High Representative of the Alliance in Vienna. Read more »

The High Level Forum on Culture of Peace took place on September 14, organized by the Office of the President of the 66th UN General Assembly in cooperation with the Foundation Culture of Peace, Inter Press Service (IPS) news agency and the Global Movement for the Culture of Peace (GMCoP).

The Forum was supported by the Permanent Missions of Bangladesh, Benin, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Kazakhstan, the Philippines and South Africa. Read more »

Doha, December 11 (QNA) – Helping nations going through transition as well as empowering women and youth are among the five imperatives vital to shape our future generations United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said here Sunday.

In his address to the fourth United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Forum which opened at the Qatar National Convention Centre in Doha today, he said, “Our differences are nothing compared to our shared humanity. As I begin my second term as UN Secretary General I have identified five generational opportunities to decisively shape our future for decades to come.” Read more »

The meeting ‘Cooperation with the Arab world: a new scenario for communication’, held in Madrid (September 7-8, 2011) as part of the Week of Spanish Cooperation, analyzed the effects of the revolutions and process of transformation in the Arab World – Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Yemen, Syria, Bahrain – on development aid. It also looked at how communication can help build bridges of understanding between citizens and institutions in the Mediterranean region. This is the second workshop organized by the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID) and Inter Press Service (IPS), which brought together Spanish journalists and colleagues from other regions.
