Federico Mayor Zaragoza and Soraya Rodriguez/Credit AECIDMADRID, Nov 26 (IPS) – Federico Mayor Zaragoza, chair of the IPS Board of Directors, and Soraya Rodriguez, Spain’s Secretary of State for International Cooperation, representing that country’s Foreign Ministry, signed an agreement for media coverage of development-related issues Wednesday.

In the signing ceremony, Mayor Zaragoza underscored “the media’s role in reporting on concrete actions carried out in the field of development aid, in bringing visibility to what is invisible — especially in a context in which it is not clear that development aid will grow — and in bringing to the attention of the public to what extent government commitments (to promote development) have or have not been fulfilled.” Read more »

The annual IPS Support Group Meeting, was held in Venice, Italy, on November 29, 2007. The meeting focused on “The role of communication in the alliance among civilizations”. The event was co-organized with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and counted on the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Province of Venice. Read more »

The European Commission announced today that a consortium led by IPS with Friends of the Earth International (FOEI) has been selected to receive funding for a three-year project to undertake news reporting, opinion building and media training regarding climate change, biodiversity, food security and extractive industries.
