The website is part of a major global media and communication project of IPS running through 2009 – 2011 called “Communicating for Change: Getting Voice, Visibility and Impact for Gender Equality“.
The project is financed by the Dutch MDG3 Fund set up by the Dutch Minister for Development Cooperation, Bert Koenders, to finance activities that advance Millennium Development Goal 3: Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. Read more »

IPS is celebrating international women’s day with the launch of a new weekly newsletter, the Gender Wire. This week also sees IPS partnering with Gender Links and GEMSA to contribute features and news stories to the Daily Links @ CSW newspaper publishing at the 53rd session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) meeting in New York. Developing Indigenous Reporting in Latin America and the Caribbean: IPS- Inter Press Service and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) announce the winner of the 2008 journalism award.
The first prize of the journalism award “Economic development, fight against poverty and social exclusion in indigenous and poor rural communities of Latin America and the Caribbean” went to Cristiano Navarro (Brazil) for the article “Crushed in the wheels of the sugarcane industry”. The second prize was awarded to Elizabeth Perez (Colombia) for the article “From Extinction to Provisional Surrender. The Panacea of Persistance”. Cristiano Navarro and Elizabeth Perez will receive cash prizes of 1,500 and 1,000 USD respectively. Read more »

On the occasion of the upcoming World Social Forum 2008: a Global Day of Action and Mobilisation, thousands of people all over the world will march, speak, celebrate, and dialogue in villages, rural zones, and urban centers, in the context of hundreds of decentralized self-organized actions. They will mobilize over a one-week period in January, culminating in a Global Day of Mobilisation and Action on 26 January to show that another world is possible. Read more »

As part of its ongoing commitment to capacity-building in the South, IPS joined forces with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) to organise a three-day encounter between African journalists/editors and women politicians, on strengthening gender perspectives on election.
