Workshop overview
IPS Latin America organized a two-day training workshop for Central American journalists in Ciudad de Guatemala on 4-5 August, 2010, focused on the current challenges of Central American countries facing the food crisis and smallholder farmers’ response.
The workshop was part of the activities for “The role of smallholder farmers in response to the food crisis and as a tool to eradicate rural poverty: knowledge sharing to influence pro-poor policy formulation in Western and Central Africa and in Latin America and the Caribbean” small grant, funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). With the motto Another World is Possible. Another US is Necessary! the USSF runs from 22 – 26 June in Detroit, Michigan. Thousands of people will be convening to discuss and share
experiences – with the aim to develop leadership, vision, and strategies needed to realize a better world.
IPS TerraViva is present in Detroit in an effort carried out with The Media Consortium (TMC), a network of the leading, progressive, independent media outlets in the U.S., to provide coverage of the USSF from within the context of the whole WSF process. Read more »

The IPS UN Bureau celebrated its 30th anniversary May 12 with a reception hosted by Director-General Mario Lubetkin at the UN Correspondents’ Association (UNCA) club in the Secretariat.
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, despite a tight schedule that evening, made a personal appearance to congratulate the DG and convey his best wishes for the future.
The reception, labeled a wine-and-cheese party, was attended by more than 75 to 100 guests– mostly journalists, diplomats and UN staffers. Read more »

It was March 1979 when IPS opened the correspondent bureau in Havana, so this year marks the 30th anniversary of IPS Cuba. A series of commemorative initiatives were organised from 17- 22 March. A visit to a sustainable development project, the focus of one of the many in-depth reports transmitted globally by IPS from Cuba, concluded intensive days of celebrations of the IPS presence in the Caribbean isle.
