ramesh_n_jauraThe Board of IPS meeting on 1st April 2014 unanimously elected Ramesh Jaura as the new Director General of IPS Inter Press Service. Mr. Jaura is a professional journalist and an experienced moderator and facilitator specialising in inter-cultural communication, globalization, international development cooperation, nuclear disarmament, culture of peace, and civil society. He is a German national of Indian origin with a long and distinguished career both inside and outside of IPS.  Mr. Jaura has led the German bureau of IPS since 1987 and served as Director of IPS Europe from 2002-2008.

Ramesh Jaura thanked the Board and expressed how privileged he felt to be entrusted with the leadership of IPS as it celebrates 50 years of giving voice to the voiceless.  He confirmed his unstinting commitment to IPS and his vision of its role as “a unique channel that is one of the pillars of global governance”. He looked forward to working immediately with all IPS stakeholders within the staff, the Board and the donor community to secure another 50 years of success for the organisation.

His Excellency Mr. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, Chair of the IPS Board of Directors, in his remarks to the meeting underlined “the special standing of IPS and its role in efforts of international cooperation” and the unique and special capacities of IPS in global affairs.

Mr. Jaura takes over the leadership of IPS from Mario Lubetkin who left the organisation in January 2014 to join FAO as its Director of Communication. Ambassador Walther Lichem, Vice Chair of the IPS Board, led IPS during the selection process and the transition period and was warmly thanked by the Board for his stewardship.
