CGmtgsmThe IPS Core Group (CG) meeting was held on October 18, 2013, in Rome, Italy. FAO hosted the meeting and Carlos Tiburcio, Special Advisor of the Personal Cabinet of the Presidency of the government of Brazil, Chair of the CG, together with Enrique Yeves, Director of Communication, on behalf of FAO as host of the meeting, welcomed participants and opened the meeting.

IPS President Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser addressed participants about the role of IPS as a global multi-media communication institution and its future.

Among participants were the governments of Argentina, Brazil, Finland, Italy and Uruguay; for United Nations/Multilateral Organizations the Alliance of Civilisations, FAO and World Bank; Foundations/ Private Sector were InBev, LEGACOOP Italy, Integra Capital of Argentina and SGI. Governments present as observers were Angola and Japan. Apologies were received by many Governments, UN and international organizations as well as representatives of the private sector who could not attend the meeting.

Participants congratulated and gave valuable inputs to IPS Director General, Mario Lubetkin who made a power point presentation on the work of IPS.

Following the meeting, IPS CG participants had the opportunity to visit the new studios of IPSTV and meet the IPSTV team.

Finally, FAO was elected as the new Chair of the IPS CG and it was decided that Rome will be the venue for the next IPS CG meeting in 2014.
