Mr Ahmia wanted IPS to take a lead role.

The other officials he met included Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative Palitha Kohona and Ambassador Anwarul Karim Chowdhury, a former Under-Secretary-General and High Representative of the Least Developed, Landlocked and Small Island Developing States.

At the end of his visit, he had an informal lunch with Khalid Malik, until recently the director of the Office of the UN Human Development Report.

Accompanying Ramesh at all his meetings was IPS UN Bureau Chief Thalif Deen.
