The Inter Press Service (IPS) International Association has initiated a new media project with the Tokyo-based Soka Gakkai International (SGI) for “strengthening awareness of the need for education for global citizenship and sustainable development.” The project embraces issues such as environment, development, peace, and human rights.

It particularly includes an agreement to follow up on the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) decade which ends this year. Another dimension of the project is to keep track of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on their way to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With this in view, on behalf of IPS International, Katsuhiro Asagiri, President of Inter Press Service Japan (right), exchanged project documents with Hirotsugu Terasaki (left), Vice-President of Soka Gakkai and Executive Director of Peace Affairs of Soka Gakkai International on April 13, 2014 in Tokyo. IPS and SGI are also partners in another media project for the sixth consecutive year, which aims at strengthening awareness of the need to abolish nuclear weapons. Visit www.nuclearabolition.info
