In the frame of the initiatives organized for the MDGs mid-term review, Sabina Zaccaro in Rome coordinated for IPS the Local Governments’ International Mid Term Evaluation Conference on the U.N. Millennium Development Goals, a joint initiative of IPS, the Municipality of Rome and United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), held in Rome on 22 and 23 June 2007. Mayors of all over the world attended the Conference.
With the support of regional directors, IPS invited to the Conference high-level journalists: Monitor (South Africa), The Nation (Thailand), O Estado de Sao Paulo (Brazil), El Espectador (Colombia) and La República (Peru), among others. Attending the Conference for IPS were Christi van der Westhuizen from South Africa and Gustavo Gonzalez from Chile.

The day prior to the opening of the conference, IPS organized a media briefing with the participation of the Vice Mayor of Rome, Maria Pia Garavaglia, the vice Mayor of Montevideo Hyara Rodriguez and organizers of the conference to introduce the themes of the conference and offer exclusive interviews. Later the same day, other two meetings were organized for journalists with Italian External Affairs Vice Minister Patrizia Sentinelli and Millennium Campaign executive coordinator Evelyn Herfkens.
