Christi van der Westhuizen Trade Editor Christi van der Westhuizen, based in Cape Town, South Africa, oversees a series of stories about trade with Africa which investigates the “Trade, not Aid” paradigm, among other topics, She coordinates with the Editor in Chief, and is part of the IPS editorial team. Van der Westhuizen has worked as a senior political correspondent in South Africa’s parliament. She was also an environmental reporter and deputy editorial page editor in South African print media. She is the recipient of various journalism awards for political and social commentary and environmental reporting. She is the author of White Power & the Rise and Fall of the National Party (2007). She edited the 2005 book Gender Instruments in Africa-Critical Perspectives, Future Strategies.
