IPS Africa is looking for a bilingual (French/English) regional editor to oversee editorial production on the African continent. The regional editor works from the IPS Africa headquarters in Johannesburg and oversees bureaus in Benin and Kenya as well as correspondents throughout the continent. The successful candidate will oversee planning and co-ordination of the Africa diary including budgeting, overseeing regional and project editors as well as maintaining a network of correspondents, stringers and translators in the coverage area.

The Regional Editor is involved in the assignment of stories to correspondents and stringers, editing of such work consistent with the IPS Style rules and transmitting edited stories to the IPS World Service. The Regional Editor liaises with translators, radio editors and project officers when necessary to ensure IPS Africa projects are completed at the standard required.

Candidates are required to have experience editing African stories, be bilingual and have a capacity to manage people and editing processes. The full terms of reference are available on request from Charmane Pillay at cpillay(at)ips.org

The closing date for applications is March 28, 2008. Candidates are requested to submit a CV as well as a two-page outline of their assessment of IPS Africa Editorial. No late applications will be considered. Applicants not contacted by April 7, 2008 should consider themselves unsuccessful.
