tessbacallaInter Press Service Asia-Pacific is pleased to announce the appointment of a new regional editor to manage the continent’s editorial services within the global development news agency, Ma. Theresa Bacalla joined the IPS news network in mid-August 2009.

Bacalla, who is from the Philippines, brings to IPS a mix of experience from news and investigative reporting, editing, research and in more recent years, teaching journalism. Just before joining IPS Asia-Pacific, Bacalla was a senior professional lecturer at De La Salle University in Manila and a journalist writing for several media organisations including the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, which specialises in investigative and in-depth reporting on Philippine issues.

She has also participated in various seminars and training programmes on media work and development. Bacalla was first prize winner of the 2006 Developing Asia Journalism Awards in the women and development category and of the 2004 Jaime V Ongpin Excellence in Journalism Awards, an annual media award series in the Philippines. She works out of the IPS Asia-Pacific’s offices.
