The annual IPS Support Group Meeting, was held in Venice, Italy, on November 29, 2007. The meeting focused on “The role of communication in the alliance among civilizations”. The event was co-organized with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and counted on the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Province of Venice. Read more »

In the frame of the initiatives organized for the MDGs mid-term review, Sabina Zaccaro in Rome coordinated for IPS the Local Governments’ International Mid Term Evaluation Conference on the U.N. Millennium Development Goals, a joint initiative of IPS, the Municipality of Rome and United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), held in Rome on 22 and 23 June 2007. Mayors of all over the world attended the Conference.

Albania SeminarIPS, in cooperation with the UNDP Albania, organised a journalists’ seminar on June 18-19 as part of the IPS-UNDP Albania project. The seminar was attended by nine Albanian and three IPS journalists from the region: Claudia Ciobanu (Bucharest), Zoltan Dujisin (Budapest) and Vesna Peric Zimonjic (Belgrade). The three spent several days gathering information about Albania and writing reports for the project.

IPS has been singled out for special mention in a voluminous 810-page new publication, ‘The Oxford Handbook on the United Nations’, published by the Oxford University Press. The comprehensive reference guide on the United Nations (price $150) covers a wide range of political and economic issues related to the world body, including human rights, international peace and security, disarmament, development, peacekeeping and gender empowerment.
