The annual IPS Support Group Meeting, was held in Venice, Italy, on November 29, 2007. The meeting focused on “The role of communication in the alliance among civilizations”. As part of its ongoing commitment to capacity-building in the South, IPS joined forces with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) to organise a three-day encounter between African journalists/editors and women politicians, on strengthening gender perspectives on election.

A seminar on climate change was organized in Mexico with UNDP, UNEP. Among speakers were the Italian ambassador and Nobel chemistry laureate Mario Molina, who gave a talk at the opening of the seminar. Extensive participation of Mexican media to the event which had wide repercussion. Around 20 newspapers from different regions of the country participated to the seminar.

The DG travelled to Glasgow to participate in the CIVICUS World Assembly and to the Media and Civil Society Dialogue jointly organized by CIVICUS, IPS and Oxfam-Novib, on the relationship between the media and civil society, with a broader aim to increase understanding between mainstream media and civil society in order to improve the quality and quantity of coverage that civil society issues receive.
