That Letter Cited by Jasmin is Signed by Heavyweights
I was going to write tonight about the letter that Jasmin posted on earlier today, but she beat me to it. It really hasn’t received the media attention it deserves given the prominence and experience of its signatories. I would point out a few of them.
Amb. Thomas Pickering’s signature is particularly compelling not only because he may be the most highly regarded diplomat of his generation (he played a key role in lining up international support for the first Gulf War as U.S. ambassador to the UN under George H.W. Bush), but also because he has led high-level Track-Two (unofficial) talks with high-level counterparts in Iran over the past five or six years. Also worth noting, in addition to the past deputy director of the IAEA, the former ambassadors to Iran from the UK, France, and Italy, all of whom co-signed an op-ed published by the Los Angeles Times last June that also appealed for serious engagement.
